REAL TREASURE
There’s nothing more exciting for children and adults to
imagine being than someone searching for buried treasure.
The booty of
gold, silver, and precious stones to make one rich beyond measure, and
having the ability to buy anything one might want seems
worth pursuing.
Along with the riches, we have the added allure of the adventure;
seeing new lands, and meeting interesting people.
It seems like a win-win situation; adventure, riches, and learning
about new lands and peoples. Who wouldn’t want to search and
find real treasure? But let me challenge our thinking concerning what
treasure truly is?
What if I told you that treasure can be an attitude,
an idea, or a matter of
the heart>? Are you with me? A person who has
an attitude of service to another could be considered a person who has
treasure. If one has an idea that could change our way of doing things
for the better that could be a treasure. And if our heart is set in
heavenly places, that could be a treasure as well.
Treasure comes in many different forms.
When we lead another to know
Jesus, and that person has a life changing experience; that is a
treasure.
When I accepted Jesus as my savior and Lord, I became one of his
precious stones. Much like a diamond or a ruby, the cuts that make me
special to Jesus is unique to Him, and created by Him. Yes, He is the
creator of this stone and what He sees fit to cut away, and discard is
fine with me. What’s left is a precious stone, that He can
call a treasure.
We don’t want to hide our treasure to the
world. We want to let it shine, so that the world that sees it can say
“what a beautiful treasure. How can I be like
that”? A Treasure can be a testimony of the creator.
If one
buys an expensive diamond ring, and never wears it, then that would be
a real waste of an exquisite treasure. Leaving it in a safe deposit box
does nothing for the treasure that you have. It only gets old and dim.
The treasure needs to be maintained and
brought to the light.
If a
diamond is in the dark, one can’t see the radiance and beauty
that a diamond possesses. But if we put the diamond to the light, we
see the prismatic beauty that the cuts produce. The sparkle and
brilliance come about through the cuts, and when it’s brought
to light. It then brings honor to the creator who fashioned the stone.
Be a treasure that’s not buried, but exposed to all; to have;
to hold; and to be a blessing. We need to bring who we are (a treasure)
to the light, and lay it at the Master’s feet, as a living
sacrifice.
